Uwe, former owner of the gliding center in Golden, visited us from California. He flew the PW5 and Golden was calling as he landed there a couple hours later and called for the tow-plane for retrieve.
fine craft
Sebastien
Sebastien arrived on the tenth and was greeted with some very difficult crosswinds, from the east, right from the start. He handled them well and established my confidence in him as a fine pilot. Matt towed Seb and I up in the Duo and I was quite happy to discover he was a fine glider pilot as well.
Gooch
Chris Gooch made it here again this year, finished his required solo flights but got too busy to come out on a regular basis. I’m sure he will be back when time is more available.
What a Pair
Mel and Martin Jones also mounted their Discus’ and expanded their horizon’s with flights to Golden and into the Glaciers. I did manage to scrounge a flight in Mel’s new Discus 2 and had a good flight into the glaciers.
John McClintock, ace of the 2-33, visited in May but the weather didn’t co-operate. He had accumulated about 50 hours by his 15th solo flight on the 2-33; with many flights over five hours. I simply had to reward him by putting him in the PW5 to free up the 2-33 and give him the experience he so deserved. This wouldn’t happen till his third visit in the middle of August.
